2016 began with Meter Provida’s 40,000 sq.ft HQ facility, at Markham Vale West achieving an investment sale price of £3.25 million, representing a net yield of 6.12%. By July construction of Great Bear Distribution’s 480,750 sq ft unit at Markham Vale East had completed.

Further development at Markham Vale North saw the construction of Ferdinand Bilstein UK’s 225,000 sq.ft unit commence, with practical completion scheduled for later this month. To finish off the year nicely Henry Boot Developments secured a deal for a second Great Bear Distribution unit totalling 480,285 sq.ft. Construction of this unit is due to commence in the coming weeks.

Vivienne Clements, Director at Henry Boot Developments, commented on the huge success in 2016:

“We are extremely pleased to see our flagship M1 development, Markham Vale, secure high profile names in 2016, including 1 million sq.ft for national logistics operator, Great Bear Distribution, and a bespoke unit for German car components specialist Ferdinand Bilstein UK.

The location has unrivalled access to the national motorway network which combined with our ability to deliver bespoke units to a high specification over concise delivery programmes; we are confident the take up in 2017 will be equally successful.”

Leader of Derbyshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Policy, Economic Development and Budget, Councillor Anne Western said:

“2016 has been another great year for Markham Vale which continues to move from strength to strength, proving jobs for local people and boosting the Derbyshire economy – two key priorities of ours.

“Work has started on a new purpose-built distribution centre for Ferdinand Bilstein UK creating up to 400 new jobs and Great Bear Distribution has announced plans to open a second distribution centre at the site also set to create up 400 new jobs over the next few years.

“We’ve also welcomed Chesterfield-based smart meter supplier Meter Provida creating up to 20 new jobs. More than 900 jobs created at the site so far.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming even more companies in 2017 and following the progress of Markham’s growing network of businesses.”

Markham Vale has 40 acres of land available which can accommodate a range of units from 15,000 sq.ft to 200,000 sq.ft.
