200-Acre North Derbyshire Industrial Park Moves Closer Following Compulsory Purchase Order
Plans by Henry Boot Developments Ltd in partnership with Derbyshire County Council to create a prestigious industrial park, “Markham Vale” in North Derbyshire, have moved forward following confirmation of a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) on the site.
The ambitious development project will see the creation of 3 million square feet of commercial floor space by Henry Boot Developments on the former Markham Colliery site off the A632, and the subsequent creation of 5,000 jobs for the area.
Essential infrastructure work, including the creation of a new M1 motorway junction, 29A, providing direct access to the site can now commence in late Summer, with the development’s spine roads set to follow.
An early phase of development totalling 45,000 sq. ft, will comprise small to medium sized commercial units ranging in size from 3,000 sq. ft to 15,000 sq. ft. These will be well suited to the needs of expanding local firms who require room to grow. Other phases will house larger units, up to 1 million square feet, and as such will play an essential role in attracting inward investment to the area from other parts of the UK and abroad.
Vivienne Clements of Henry Boot Developments comments: “The development will play a hugely significant role in regenerating this region – the CPO marks the first step in realising a vision that the Council has had for many years, and we are thrilled to be working alongside them to make this real.
“Markham Vale offers a wealth of advantages to businesses looking to relocate, and we know that its inward investment potential is huge. We will be building speculative units as well as offering companies a design and build option. “
John Williams, Leader of Derbyshire County Council adds: “A lot of hard work from everyone involved has led to this very exciting stage in the development. Markham Vale will transform this area, and breathe new life into the surrounding communities, ensuring a prosperous local economy.”
The Leeds and Nottingham-based offices of King Sturge have been appointed as commercial agents.
Helen Longstaffe of the Nottingham office comments: “Our marketing campaign has only just been launched, and we are already attracting a significant number of enquiries from some major house-hold names. Interest is bound to gather even further momentum once construction work commences on the motorway junction in a few weeks time, and the scale of the proposed development becomes obvious.”
