Henry Boot Developments Launch 200-acre Commercial Scheme

A special event held on 9th July 2008 saw Derbyshire County Council representatives, local dignitaries, and Henry Boot Developments’ representatives gather on site to officially mark the launch of Markham Vale, the 200-acre commercial scheme which is Derbyshire’s largest ever regeneration project, and one of the greenest developments in the UK.

The event was part of a two-day launch that enabled commercial agents and potential occupiers from all over the UK to see at first hand the investment and relocation opportunities that the scheme offers.  Chief Executive of Derbyshire County Council, Nick Hodgson, and Director of Henry Boot Developments, Vivienne Clements made formal addresses.

The event marks a new era of progress for the £250 million project which is being brought forward by the developer working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council, and which comes on the back of the M1 motorway junction, 29A opening last month, allowing immediate access to the site.

Vivienne Clements, Director of Henry Boot Developments commented: “It proved a very exciting day for everyone involved in the planning, creation and marketing of this ambitious scheme.

“It’s highly encouraging that even in its infancy, we were able to announce occupiers who have already signed up, as well as reporting on the very high level of enquiries that the development is receiving. Agents from all over the country saw for themselves the great benefits on offer here which include a superb location in the heart of the UK’s motorway network, coupled with high quality build offering a fantastic wealth of planet-friendly, cost effective green credentials.”

Derbyshire County Council leader Councillor John Williams said: “We are very confident that the Markham Vale development will breathe new life into the former coalfields sites and bring more than 5,000 jobs to the area, giving a real boost to the local economy.

“We have just celebrated the opening of the new motorway junction, 29A, which is a major milestone and now planning permission has been granted for the construction of the first buildings the development will really start to take shape.”

It is anticipated that subject to planning permission the first phase of the development will commence construction in the next few weeks.  This will include The Green Giant, a 585,500 sq. ft warehouse/distribution unit boasting a wealth of green features, an adjacent 100,000 sq. ft unit, and a series of smaller terrace units ranging in size from 3,000 sq. ft to 15,000 sq. ft, as well as a 37,000 sq. ft unit.  Henry Boot Developments will also be providing accommodation on a design and build basis for a wide variety of requirements.
